Sullivan and Chinese General Discuss Bilateral and International Agendas

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and senior Chinese military official Gen. Zhang Youxia met in Beijing to discuss issues on the bilateral and international agenda, as reported by the White House. During the meeting, Sullivan emphasized the importance of preventing competition between the two countries from escalating into conflict.

The statement also highlighted the significance of maintaining regular military-to-military communications to facilitate high-level diplomacy and keep channels of communication open. Both parties acknowledged the progress made in military communications over the past months and planned to continue this dialogue in the future.

Sullivan addressed various key issues during the meeting, including the importance of cross-Strait peace, the US commitment to freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, concerns about PRC support for Russia’s defense industry, and the need to prevent miscalculations and escalation in cyberspace. The statement also mentioned ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire and hostage deal in Gaza.
