Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the return of the Ounje Eko market with a 25 per cent discount on prices, starting this Sunday. The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, revealed this information at a press briefing in Alausa, Ikeja.
The Governor had promised the revival of this initiative during a live press conference before the recent nationwide protest. The ‘Ounje Eko’ Food Discount Market Phase II aims to ease the burden of increasing food prices on the citizens of Lagos.
The market program was initially launched on March 17, 2024, offering discounted prices on various food items across the five divisions of Lagos. Phase I was held in all 57 local government areas and local council development areas on Sundays.
Residents can enjoy a discounted rate of 25 per cent on essentials like rice, beans, Garri, bread, eggs, and tomatoes. The prices may vary based on location, but the discount will still apply accordingly.
This initiative shows the government’s commitment to supporting the people of Lagos through impactful initiatives, and it is a welcome relief for many struggling with the high cost of living.
