Ramaphosa apologizes for false ‘1M Alexandra houses promise’

President Cyril Ramaphosa has issued an apology to the people of Alexandra after facing pressure from EFF leader Julius Malema. During a session in the National Assembly, Ramaphosa clarified that his promise to build 1-million houses was a national target, not just for the people of Alexandra. Despite this explanation, Malema challenged Ramaphosa to apologize for potentially misleading the community.

In response, Ramaphosa expressed his condolences and admitted that the 1-million house target was not achieved, with only 240,000 houses built. He promised that 40,000 houses would be constructed in Frankenwald and Linksfield to benefit the people of Alexandra and Stjwetla. Additionally, he highlighted the challenges in housing development in Alexandra due to limited land availability and topographical constraints.

The exchange between Ramaphosa and Malema shed light on the housing struggles faced by the people of Alexandra, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency in government promises.
