PA plant increases 155mm shell production for Ukraine by 50%- US officials

In a bid to support Ukraine’s defense efforts, an ammunition plant in Scranton, Pennsylvania, has increased its production of 155 mm artillery shells by 50%. These shells are crucial in Ukraine’s fight against foreign invasion. The General Dynamics plant, located in President Joe Biden’s birthplace, is undergoing a significant modernization project to meet the escalating demand.

Factory officials have shared that the plant has ramped up its output from 24,000 to 36,000 rounds per month, with further increases expected due to modernization efforts. The importance of this production is underscored by U.S. Army representative Richard Hansen, who emphasized the role of factory workers in ensuring the safety of military personnel and civilians alike.

Furthermore, the economic impact of this support is not to be overlooked, with around 300 jobs sustained by the plant. This development could potentially sway the conversation surrounding U.S. aid for Ukraine, especially in the context of the upcoming presidential election in Pennsylvania, a pivotal battleground state.

Despite challenges in the delivery of promised artillery shells from European allies, the U.S. remains an essential partner in Ukraine’s defense strategy. The plant’s contribution highlights the broader benefits of supporting Ukraine amidst geopolitical tensions.
