Recently, Russia published a list containing the names of 92 individuals, including employees of major US media outlets like Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Washington Post. The list also consists of prosecutors, university professors, and employees of defense and military companies.
Among those blacklisted are Wall Street Journal’s editor-in-chief Emma Tucker, deputy Charles Forelle, and Ukraine bureau chief James Marson. The Russian ministry claimed that these individuals were involved in spreading “fake” news about the Russian armed forces.
This move is seen as Moscow’s response to counter the “Russophobia” displayed by the US President Joe Biden’s administration through extensive sanctions against Russian politicians, businessmen, scientists, and journalists.
In a similar retaliatory measure in March, Russia banned 227 US citizens from entering the country, citing US sanctions against Russian citizens supporting the Kremlin and the military operation in Ukraine.
