Labour prioritizing Israel trade despite ongoing genocide.

The Labour government, led by Jonathan Reynolds, is continuing the policy of deepening trade ties with Israel, initiated by the Conservative government. Despite ongoing violent attacks by Israel on Palestinians, negotiations for a new bilateral trade agreement between the UK and Israel have been progressing since 2022.

Reynolds, who has received funding from Britain’s Israel lobby, is overseeing the negotiations with Israeli minister Nir Barkat, known for his extreme views on the Gaza conflict. Despite previous statements opposing Israel’s illegal settlements, Reynolds now works on expanding trade relations with Israel, including arms exports.

Critics argue that the UK government should suspend trade negotiations with Israel due to its violations of international law. Sanctions against Israel are not on the UK government’s agenda, and the focus remains on boosting trade ties. Despite calls for a Gaza ceasefire, the UK seeks to elevate research collaborations and industrial projects with Israel, highlighting the government’s commitment to economic growth over human rights concerns.
