Egypt sends weapons to Somalia after security pact, sources claim

Egypt recently provided military aid to Somalia for the first time in over forty years, sparking tensions with both Somalia and Ethiopia. This aid delivery comes as Egypt and Somalia have strengthened ties, particularly in response to Ethiopia’s agreement with Somaliland, a breakaway region of Somalia.

The Mogadishu government views the deal between Ethiopia and Somaliland as a threat to its sovereignty and has taken steps to block it. As a result, Egypt has condemned the deal and signed a security pact with Somalia, offering to contribute troops to a peacekeeping mission in the country.

The arrival of Egyptian military planes in Mogadishu with weapons and ammunition has raised concerns of escalating conflict between Egypt and Ethiopia. While Somalia has not commented on the aid delivery, tensions between the countries remain high.
