De Moraes sets sights on X in Brazil
Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre De Moraes has given Elon Musk a 24-hour ultimatum to appoint a legal representative for the social media platform X in Brazil or risk suspension, according to Agencia Brasil. The summons was ironically posted through the STF’s X account.
Failure to comply with this directive could result in the suspension of X in Brazil, following Musk’s announcement to shut down the company’s headquarters in the country and his accusations against De Moraes.
De Moraes is enforcing his previous rulings to block Senator Marcos do Val’s profile and others under investigation related to the January 8 coup attempt. The senator had his social media and bank accounts frozen, prompting a fine against X for non-compliance.
Musk’s decision to close the office in Brazil indicates a standoff between X and the Brazilian judiciary, as the company currently lacks a legal representative in the country.
