Argentina betting on lithium and copper projects to overcome recession
Argentina is placing its bets on lithium and copper mining projects to boost its economy. Minister Luis Lucero revealed plans for the country to double mining exports to around US$ 10 billion within three years, with a focus on lithium and copper due to their importance in electric vehicles and tech.
With the backing of major companies like BHP and Glencore, Argentina aims to increase its production capacity, positioning itself as a key player in the global market. Despite economic challenges, the government is implementing pro-business policies to attract foreign investment and stimulate growth.
The ambitious target includes reaching an annual capacity of 200,000 tons of lithium by 2026, making Argentina one of the top lithium producers globally. Minister Lucero outlined a new incentive regime for large investments to support key mining projects and drive economic recovery.
