Former President Michel Aoun is torn between opposition to Hezbollah’s clashes with Israel on Lebanon’s southern border and his desire to maintain close ties with the Iran-backed group. Despite his reservations, Aoun expressed that he would celebrate if Hezbollah emerged victorious against Israel, though he opposes the conflict. He praised Hezbollah’s leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah for his rational and politically correct decisions.
Aoun also defended FPM chief Jebran Bassil following the resignation or expulsion of four FPM members from the political council. He maintained that the FPM remains the strongest Christian party, undergoing necessary corrections and improvements. Aoun criticized the departing members for acting without consulting the party and described one as “ungrateful.”
