UN Delegation Meets Pakistan’s Interior Minister to Discuss Terrorism and Refugee Repatriation
Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, recently met with a UN delegation to address the issue of terrorism and the repatriation of Afghan refugees. The delegation, led by Special Representative for Afghanistan Indrika Ratwatte, expressed concern over recent terrorist attacks in the region.
Naqvi emphasized the need for international help in the return of Afghan refugees and disclosed plans for the second phase of repatriation. He highlighted Pakistan’s efforts in combating terrorism and the sacrifices made by its security forces.
The minister also pointed out the involvement of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in attacks on Pakistani soil, which are orchestrated from Afghanistan. He stressed the importance of stopping such activities to ensure peace and stability in the region.
Ratwatte praised Pakistan’s role in hosting Afghan refugees and participating in the Doha dialogue. The UN is working closely with the Afghan government for the permanent rehabilitation of refugees.
With millions of Afghan refugees residing in Pakistan, the country has initiated a phased repatriation plan to address the issue of undocumented aliens. The recent influx of Afghan nationals following the Taliban’s return to power has underscored the need for swift action in resettling them.
As Pakistan continues its efforts to repatriate Afghan refugees and combat terrorism, the collaboration with international organizations like the UN remains crucial in achieving long-term peace and stability in the region.
