The Hawks in Vaal Rand have apprehended three suspects involved in a corruption scandal at Emfuleni municipality, known as the “jobs for cash” scheme. Capt Lloyd Ramovha explained that the syndicate’s recruiters provided community members with fraudulent employment contracts in exchange for Capitec Bank account details, allegedly belonging to a member of the mayoral committee for public works.
The suspects allegedly gained R200,000 through this illegal operation and are set to appear in court for a bail hearing in Heidelberg. This case sheds light on the pervasive issue of corruption within local government structures and the lengths individuals will go to for personal gain.
