Exciting changes are coming to Ireland’s employment permit system, set to kick off on September 2nd. These changes, outlined in the Employment Permits Act, aim to make the system more flexible and responsive to the needs of businesses and the labor market.
One of the key changes includes allowing certain permit holders to switch employers after nine months, bringing more freedom and flexibility to workers. Additionally, a new seasonal employment permit will support industries with seasonal demands, such as fruit picking.
The updated regulations will also grant subcontractors access to the employment permit system, along with additional requirements like training and accommodation support for permit holders. Non-consultant hospital doctors will now be able to work at multiple sites under a single permit, streamlining processes and making it easier for them to advance in their roles.
Moreover, quotas for two key roles have been extended, with 500 permits allocated to the home care sector and 250 permits for lineworkers. These changes align with the government’s goal of attracting more international talent to Ireland, ensuring a modern and flexible employment permit system that benefits both employers and employees.
