Ukrainian drones targeted an oil depot in Russia’s Kirov region, over 700 kilometers east of Moscow, in what was the first attack on the region since the invasion. Governor Alexander Sokolov confirmed that two drones were shot down, causing a fire at the Zenit plant in Kotelnich, though no significant damage was reported.
The Kirov region, situated more than 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, had been untouched by attacks until now. The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on the drone downings. The strike on the Zenit oil depot follows similar attacks on the Atlas and Kavkaz depots in the Rostov region, with all three facilities managed by Russia’s Federal Agency for State Reserves.
