UK Muslim groups call for government to work with Muslim Council of Britain post-riots.

Amid recent far-right riots, British Muslim organisations have united in a joint declaration, urging the government to work with “democratically elected” Muslim representatives, notably the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB). The Islamophobia Action Group, representing 80 organisations, emphasized the importance of engaging with legitimate Muslim voices to address community concerns.

Dr Anas Altikriti highlighted the need for the government to embrace diversity of opinions within the Muslim community and adopt the All Party Parliamentary Group’s definition of Islamophobia. The declaration called for an independent review of far-right activities, focusing on social media platforms and political narratives perpetuating hate and Islamophobia.

Alhaji Munir Ajayi echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the need for more action following the riots. As the landscape evolves, it is crucial for the government to engage with Muslims through established bodies like the MCB to foster understanding and inclusivity.
