River eyed as potential source for over 100 sick in Kumamoto

Over 100 cases of possible norovirus have been reported in Kumamoto Prefecture, with a local river identified as a potential culprit. The prefectural government stated that on Aug. 13, seven high school students playing near Todoroki Falls in Amakusa city experienced vomiting and diarrhea after being in the river, leading to more similar cases in the area in the following days. Fortunately, all reported symptoms were mild according to the city.

As a precaution, the city has set up warning signs near the river, urging visitors to avoid playing in the water to prevent further cases of norovirus. It is important for local residents and tourists to be mindful of potential health risks in the area and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
