In a dramatic turn of events, two individuals attempted to set themselves on fire during a protest against the construction of a waste management center in Noida. The incident unfolded near the Kasna culvert, where the center is being built by the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority. The protesters, including Akshit Sharma and Himanshu Vashisht, resorted to extreme measures to halt the construction work.
Thankfully, the police intervened just in time to prevent a tragedy. According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Kumar Singh, the authorities tried to reason with the protesters, but they persisted. The two individuals poured kerosene on themselves in a bid to self-immolate, but law enforcement officers were able to rescue them.
It was later revealed that neither Sharma nor Vashisht had any ownership rights or ties to the land in question. An FIR has been filed against the protesters for impeding government work. This incident serves as a reminder of the complexities surrounding development projects and the passionate responses they can evoke.
