According to a recent survey, 64% of people in Ireland believe that the country should welcome individuals who move there for a better life. The study, conducted by Ireland Thinks for the Migrant Rights Centre Ireland, also revealed support for policies allowing undocumented migrant workers to legalize their status and for Irish companies to recruit from outside the EU.
When it comes to family reunions, 65% agree that individuals on work permits should be allowed to bring their immediate family with them. Additionally, 88% believe that reducing the fee for residence permit cards to less than €100 is fair.
Neil Bruton from MRCI highlighted the challenges faced by migrant workers in Ireland, including separation from families and high immigration fees. Shiji Joseph, a healthcare assistant from India, expressed gratitude for public support towards better family reunion policies.
The survey reflects a positive shift in attitudes towards immigration and highlights the need for progressive policy changes to address the challenges faced by migrants seeking a better life in Ireland.
