A group of 100 hostages who were released from Gaza, along with families of hostages, penned a letter to Transportation Minister Miri Regev, urging her to refrain from using any information or images of the hostages in an upcoming ceremony on October 7. The letter criticized the government for diverting resources towards the event instead of focusing on the return of the remaining hostages and the safety of border communities.
‘A cynical use of the names of the hostages’
The letter emphasized that using the names of the hostages in a ceremony while neglecting their welfare for almost a year was unacceptable. The signees requested that the government exclude any references to the released hostages, those still in captivity, or their families in the upcoming event.
Moreover, the group urged the government to prioritize the safe return of the hostages instead of organizing elaborate ceremonies. The decision to transfer the ceremony to Regev’s responsibility drew criticism from the public, as it is seen as a distraction from the main issue at hand.
As the commemoration draws near, the plea for a more focused and effective approach to hostage return remains a poignant reminder of the priorities at stake.
