Economic Growth through Drug Safety

The pharmaceutical industry in Jordan is experiencing significant growth and development, according to Fadi Atrash, the representative for the pharmaceutical and medical supplies sectors at the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI). Atrash emphasized the vital role of this sector in driving economic growth and creating employment opportunities in the Kingdom.

In an interview, Atrash praised the support of His Majesty King Abdullah II and relevant authorities in promoting the Jordanian human pharmaceutical industry. He commended the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) for its contributions to industry development and highlighted the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply’s support.

The human medicine sector in Jordan accounts for 85% of the total therapeutic industries, with exports reaching JD616 million last year. Atrash outlined the sector’s growth targets, including increasing pharmaceutical exports and workforce by 2033.

A forthcoming project supported by the International Finance Corporation – World Bank Group and funded by the Government of the Netherlands aims to enhance the pharmaceutical industry’s capabilities and global presence, positioning Jordan as a regional hub for pharmaceutical products.

This ongoing evolution of the pharmaceutical sector underscores its importance in the Kingdom’s economic modernization vision and regional strategic objectives.
