Muscat Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources Invests RO4mn in Seeb Fishing Port
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) is taking steps to support the fisheries sector with a RO4mn investment programme to develop the fishing port in Seeb, in collaboration with the private sector. The project, set to be awarded in December 2024, aims to enhance infrastructure and boost revenue for the sector.
The development plan includes expanding the port by 18,904sqm, adding government and service facilities such as a Fish Quality Control Department, maintenance workshops, floating and fixed docks, and a fish farming project with floating cages. The port will also feature a market with wholesale and retail halls, shops, storage rooms, and administrative offices.
With investments in the port reaching RO17.6mn and revenue exceeding RO126,000, H E Dr Saud bin Hamoud al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, emphasized the importance of ongoing development efforts during his recent visit to the Seeb fishing port. The project aims to increase fish production, ensure high-quality products, and provide services to fishermen and visitors.
