In a recent speech during the COAS Combined 2nd and 3rd Quarters Conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, emphasized that the military would not allow itself to be used to disrupt democratic governance in Nigeria. He addressed the call for a military takeover by some young Nigerians, stating that the Nigerian Army is committed to upholding democratic principles and will not jeopardize the progress made in the last 25 years.
Lagbaja highlighted the importance of food security following the #EndBadgovernance InNigeria protest, acknowledging that hunger can lead to a major crisis. He reiterated the Army’s stance against undemocratic interventions and expressed a commitment to enhancing food security through agricultural policies and collaborations with government and private organizations.
Additionally, Lagbaja outlined the Army’s efforts to strengthen security through acquisitions of helicopters, vehicles, rifles, and ammunition, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with other security agencies and governments. The conference was supported by the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, who praised the Army’s dedication and pledged state support for the proposed Army base.
