China’s Commerce Ministry strongly opposes Canada’s decision to impose tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs). They condemn this action as typical trade protectionism that disrupts the global industrial chain and undermines economic and trade rules.
The ministry spokesperson emphasized the negative impact on China-Canada economic relations, enterprises, and Canadian consumers, and the hindrance to Canada’s green transformation efforts.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the increase in import taxes on Chinese EVs to 106.1% and tariffs on Chinese steel and aluminum to 25%, starting on October 1 and October 15 respectively.
China urges Canada to correct its erroneous practices immediately to maintain stable economic relations and adhere to global trade rules.
