In a recent development, eight railway stations in the Lucknow division of Northern Railways have been officially renamed after saints and freedom fighters. The decision was met with criticism from Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who urged the BJP government to prioritize improving railway station conditions and preventing accidents instead.
The stations that were renamed include Jais City Railway Station, Guru Gorakhnath Dham, Maa Kalikan Dham, Swami Paramhans, Maharaja Bijli Pasi Railway Station, Maa Ahorwa Bhawani Dham, Amar Shahid Bhale Sultan, and Tapeshwarnath Dham.
Former Amethi MP Smriti Irani advocated for the name changes to preserve the cultural identity and heritage of the region. The renaming process was initiated after Irani’s announcement on social media in March.
The new names were chosen based on the proximity of prominent cultural landmarks and communities, such as temples of Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali, Guru Gorakhnath Dham ashram, and the Pasi community. The move aims to honor local history and traditions.
As discussions continue around the renaming exercise, the focus remains on addressing the concerns raised by critics like Akhilesh Yadav regarding railway safety and infrastructure. Stay tuned for updates on this evolving story.
