West Must End Restrictions on Weapons to Ukraine

In the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, the devastating impact of Russian missiles and drones on Ukrainian infrastructure and civilians is staggering. According to Gen. Oleksandr Syrsky, over 11,000 facilities have been hit since the start of the war, with a significant percentage targeting civilian areas.

The destruction caused by guided glide bombs is even more severe, with cities like Soledar, Bakhmut, and Avdiivka bearing witness to widespread devastation. The financial cost of the war on Ukraine’s infrastructure is estimated to be around $155 billion, with a further $486 billion needed for recovery and reconstruction.

However, despite the urgent need for defense against Russian attacks, Western restrictions have hindered Ukraine’s ability to effectively counter these threats. The lack of access to advanced missile defense systems like the Patriot has left Ukraine vulnerable to further attacks.

The refusal to provide Ukraine with necessary weapons to defend itself is exacerbating the humanitarian crisis, leading to immense suffering for the Ukrainian people. The international community’s moral obligation to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression cannot be understated. It is time to remove restrictions and empower Ukraine to protect its citizens and rebuild its nation.
