US assesses threat of new attack on Israel by Iran or its proxies
Pat Ryder, the press secretary for the US Department of Defense, confirmed that there is still a threat of a new attack on Israel by Iran or its proxies, following recent rocket and drone barrages launched by Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
Iran and its regional allies have been threatening to attack Israel in response to recent high-profile killings in Tehran and Beirut. Hezbollah stated that their recent strikes on Israel were in retaliation for one of those assassinations.
The Pentagon remains prepared to support Israel’s defense and protect US forces in the event of an attack. Israeli airstrikes on Hezbollah targets were launched in response to an imminent threat, with the US providing intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance support.
US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered two carrier strike groups to remain in the region in support of Israel, with General Charles “CQ” Brown meeting with Israeli security officials to discuss countering Iran’s aggression.
As tensions continue to escalate, the US is maintaining a strong presence in the Middle East to ensure stability and security in the region.
