Over the past few months, officials responsible for running the federal government’s investigation into unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) – the new term for UFOs, have been speaking publicly about their findings. In a recent report, the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) stated that they have not found empirical evidence of off-world technology or hidden classified programs. Despite this, demands for the U.S. government to release all classified UFO documents persist. How did we get here? Interest in UFOs spiked decades ago, fueled by Cold War anxieties and early sightings. Over time, the narrative shifted from military involvement to the possibility of extraterrestrial visitors. The U.S. Air Force investigated sightings but dismissed them as misperceptions. UFO enthusiasts pushed for disclosure and hearings, persisting despite government denials. As interest waned in the late 20th century, recent global events have reignited the UFO debate, echoing past concerns about national security and alien observance. The UFO phenomenon reflects ongoing fears of unknown technologies and unexplained threats, bridging past, present, and possibly the future.
