Syrian Suspect Named in German Stabbing Attack

German prosecutors have identified Issa Al H., a 26-year-old Syrian man, as the suspect behind a multiple stabbing attack in Solingen that left three dead and eight injured. He is accused of murder and being a member of the Islamic State group. Al H. had applied for asylum in Germany in 2022 but his claim was denied last year.

The attack, claimed by IS in revenge for Muslims in Palestine, occurred during a festival in Solingen’s market square. Chancellor Olaf Scholz will visit Solingen to attend a memorial service for the victims. Amid calls for stricter knife laws, Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck emphasized the need for improved security measures.

Opposition leaders are urging the government to enhance deportation policies for individuals with denied asylum claims. CDU Chairman Friedrich Merz and CSU leader Markus Söder are pushing for stricter controls to prevent further attacks. The incident has sparked renewed concerns over immigration policies in Germany.
