Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the collapsed statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg district will be replaced with a bigger statue of the Maratha warrior king at the same site.
“It is our resolve to build a bigger statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the same site,” Fadnavis said
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced plans to erect a larger statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the site where the previous statue collapsed in Sindhudurg district.
The 35-foot statue of the Maratha empire founder, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year, fell due to structural issues.
Fadnavis mentioned oversight by the Navy in construction and emphasized the need to consider local factors for the new statue to prevent similar incidents.
The government’s resolution is to replace the fallen statue with a grander one, and an inquiry is ongoing to determine the cause of the collapse.
Opposition criticism of the state government’s handling of the situation has been criticized by Fadnavis as politicization of a tragic event.
The incident has sparked debate over the rushed installation of the statue before elections, leading to legal action against those responsible.
The state government’s commitment to honoring Shivaji Maharaj with a new statue demonstrates their dedication to preserving Maratha history.
