Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Governor Kamran Tessori have taken notice of journalist Mohammed Bachal’s tragic killing by dacoits in the riverine area of Rounti in Sindh’s Ghotki district. Organized criminal gangs have been a longstanding issue in the border areas of southern Sindh and central Punjab, often engaging in kidnap-for-ransom activities.
The authorities are determined to bring justice to Bachal, a reporter for Awaaz TV, who lost his life in the line of duty. CM Murad and Governor Tessori have emphasized the need for immediate action against the perpetrators and intensifying the ongoing operation against the dacoits.
The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has condemned Bachal’s murder, demanding swift arrest and punishment for the culprits. Recent cases of journalists’ killings in Sindh have heightened concerns about press freedom and safety in the region.
With Pakistan ranking low on the World Press Freedom Index, there is a pressing need to address the root causes of violence against journalists and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable.
