The Islamic Movement of E (IMN), commonly known as Shiites, has accused the police of arresting their members while they were on hospital beds in Gwagwalada, Abuja. This action has been deemed a violation of their fundamental human rights.
The group stated that the arrests took place at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada, FCT Abuja. They claim that this incident is part of a larger pattern of violence and intimidation against supporters of the Islamic Movement who were gathering in Abuja to commemorate Arba’een.
In a statement by Sheikh Rabiu Abdullahi, the IMN emphasized that the organization cannot be banned as it represents a concept, an ideology, and a philosophy. They demanded the unconditional release of all those arrested and called for accountability from the Nigerian Police Forces.
The Shiites called upon human rights organizations, concerned citizens, and the international community to take action against these violations of human rights and ensure justice for the victims of police brutality.
