The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China is conducting a live-fire drill in Yunnan province, which shares a border with Myanmar. The exercise aims to test various military capabilities including reconnaissance, early warning, area control, and firepower. Senior Colonel Tian Junli, spokesperson for the PLA Southern Theatre Command, emphasized the importance of readiness in responding to sudden situations to protect national sovereignty and border stability.
The drill, which will continue until Thursday, comes at a time of increased conflict within Myanmar. The military government in Myanmar recently extended a state of emergency to maintain control amidst escalating violence. The specified drill zones include Ruili city, Zhenkang county, and Gengma Dai and Wa autonomous county near the Myanmar border.
