Karachi police on high alert as city braces for more rain – Pakistan

Following recent rainfall in Karachi, the city police are on high alert as the Pakistan Meteorological Department predicts more showers. The deep depression system approaching from Rajasthan has already caused light to moderate rainfall, with heavier downpours expected in the coming days.

PMD’s chief meteorologist, Sardar Sarfaraz, warned of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in lower Sindh, with Karachi likely to receive around 150mm to 200mm during the spell. Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Karachi, Javed Alam Odho, has instructed precautionary measures to be taken by the police to ensure public safety during the predicted rainfall.

The public is advised to stay away from electric wires and poles during the rains and seek assistance by calling the Madadgar 15 helpline in case of emergencies.

With heavy rain often causing urban flooding in Karachi, the city administration has declared a “rain emergency” to mobilize resources for any potential disasters. Climate experts warn that climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of weather-related disasters during the monsoon season.
