Journalists unlawfully detained must seek court redress-Bwala

Former Atiku Abubakar 2023 Presidential Campaign spokesman, Daniel Bwala, emphasizes the importance of journalists seeking legal redress if unlawfully detained. In a recent interview on Channels Television, now a supporter of President Bola Tinubu, Bwala defends free speech and the necessity of upholding the law.

Bwala acknowledges progress in free speech but asserts that involvement in criminal activities nullifies immunity, even for journalists and lawyers. He urges those wrongfully detained to turn to the courts for justice.

While highlighting the protection of Nigerian people’s rights under the Tinubu administration, he stresses that journalists involved in crimes are not exempt from legal consequences.

However, recent incidents of investigative journalists being unlawfully arrested raise concerns. Organizations like Amnesty International and SERAP condemn these actions, likening them to methods used during military rule.
