Japan unveils a 10-step plan to roll out a national decarbonization strategy, aiming to make it easier for businesses to invest in carbon-free power sources like renewable energy and nuclear power. The draft, presented by green transformation minister Ken Saito, includes measures to upgrade and implement green transformation efforts promptly, as emphasized by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
Officials from various ministries are seeking funding of around ¥1.2 trillion for fiscal 2025 to promote green transformation investments, including supply networks for solar cells and offshore wind power generation equipment. The draft emphasizes the necessity of large-scale development of carbon-free power sources and a system to help businesses recover invested funds.
Furthermore, the draft highlights the shift from coal-fired power generation to using liquefied natural gas as fuel, stressing the importance of securing long-term contracts for stable procurement. Plans to expand overseas sales of carbon reduction products and the establishment of an emissions trading system are also outlined in the strategy.
