HURIWA calls for prosecution of 97 caught in Abuja attack

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) confirmed the arrest of 97 suspects and recovery of weapons linked to the recent attack involving the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) in Abuja. The attack resulted in the death of two police officers and left three unconscious, prompting a directive from the Inspector-General of Police to apprehend the perpetrators.

HURIWA also called for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the attack, expressing concerns about the potential escalation of violence if not handled properly. The clash between the IMN and the police has sparked controversy, with conflicting accounts of the incident.

The IMN denied responsibility for the violence, claiming the police attacked a peaceful religious procession. HURIWA emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and urged the police to avoid actions that could fuel extremism.

The organization highlighted the evolution of Boko Haram from a non-violent group to a deadly insurgency, warning against a similar outcome in this situation. Upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability for the attack are crucial to preventing future incidents.
