FG may rebrand Arik and Aero as national carriers

The plan to merge Arik and Aero Contractors airlines to create a national carrier is in the works, according to the Asset Management and Corporation of Nigeria. Arik and Aero Contractors are currently facing financial challenges, with debts that may be impossible to pay off. The idea of converting the airlines to a national carrier was initially rejected but is being reconsidered.

The past launch of Nigeria Air by the former Minister of Aviation under controversial ownership arrangements has raised concerns. Recent legal actions have halted the sale of Nigeria Air to Ethiopian Airlines. The AMCON CEO, Gbenga Alade, expressed concerns about resolving the financial issues of Arik and Aero Contractors.

AMCON’s efforts to recover outstanding debts and assets from debtors are ongoing, with plans to engage international asset tracers. The corporation has received support from various stakeholders in its debt recovery endeavors. AMCON aims to address challenges in various sectors, including power and telecommunications, to improve Nigeria’s business environment.
