Tragedy struck in Derry city as a 65-year-old woman, Montserrat Martorell Elias, was found dead following a horrific attack and fire at her flat. A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of her murder and taken in for questioning by police. Detective Chief Inspector Anthony Kelly urged anyone with information to come forward.
The woman was discovered in the bedroom of her ground-floor flat on Harvey Street after firefighters responded to reports of a fire. She had suffered multiple injuries in the attack. Mr. Kelly expressed his condolences to the victim’s family in Spain and urged the public to refrain from speculation that could prejudice the investigation.
