Protests Erupt at Indian Visa Centre in Dhaka Over Delays

Hundreds of frustrated Bangladeshis protested at the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Dhaka as the queue for visa approval stretched for over a kilometre. The IVAC halted services earlier due to student-led protests and evacuated non-essential Indian staff.

Despite resuming limited operations, applicants faced harassment and delays, with many waiting for months. The situation escalated with protests at other centers in Bangladesh. Visa applicants, often traveling for tourism and medical reasons, expressed their frustrations.

Police presence and army intervention were seen to calm the applicants. The need for urgent medical visas added to the tension, with one applicant waiting for four months to take his ill wife to India for treatment. The demand for timely and efficient visa processing remains a priority for Bangladeshi citizens.
