The Western Cape anti-gang unit recently made significant arrests, including apprehending an alleged gang member in possession of an unlawful firearm and a suspect linked to a murder case. The unit, in collaboration with crime intelligence and local police, conducted successful operations in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain, and Lilian Court in Manenberg, resulting in the apprehension of the suspects.
Provincial police spokesperson Lt-Col Malcolm Pojie highlighted the importance of enhanced deployment of specialized units to combat gang-related crimes. The operations led to the seizure of firearms, including a 6.35 Browning pistol and a 9mm pistol with ammunition. The suspects, one linked to a gang grouping in the area and the other to a murder case, were arrested and held for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
These arrests demonstrate the effectiveness of multi-agency collaboration in combating gang violence and criminal activities in the Western Cape. The suspects are set to appear in court to face charges related to their illegal possession of firearms and involvement in criminal activities.
