Osun confirms 2 cases of mpox within 80 characters

The Osun State Government recently confirmed two cases of monkeypox in the Ilesa West Local Government Area. The cases involve a five-year-old and a 25-year-old male, currently receiving treatment at the State Hospital in Ilesa West. Despite this development, the State Commissioner for Health, Mr Jola Akinola, assured residents that there is no need to panic as the government is actively managing the situation.

During a meeting of the Monkeypox Emergency Operations Centre held in Osogbo, Akinola emphasized the government’s commitment to preventing the spread of the virus. He highlighted the success in managing COVID-19 and cholera outbreaks, expressing confidence in managing the monkeypox cases.

Dr. Akindele Adekunle, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Public Health, acknowledged the support of partners in maintaining proactive measures. The State Epidemiologist, Dr. Omolola Adeagbo, disclosed that 47 suspected cases were reported across 13 Local Government Areas, with two confirmed cases in Ilesa West.
