O’Gorman pushes for Zoned Land Tax inclusion in Budget

The Green Party leader, Roderic O’Gorman, has confirmed that the Residential Zoned Land Tax will proceed as planned in the upcoming Budget. He mentioned that a provision will be made to exempt farmers from this tax after discussing the matter with Minister for Finance, Jack Chambers.

Despite initial disagreements within the coalition government over the tax, Minister O’Gorman expressed confidence in its implementation. The tax aims to target land hoarders but sparked concerns that active farmers could be adversely affected. After a public row, it was clarified that the tax will not be deferred, as some had feared.

Minister O’Gorman stressed that the tax was never intended to impact farmers and assured that further work on the provision for farmers is ongoing. He emphasized the importance of seeking clarity within the coalition and ensuring the tax’s implementation in the upcoming Budget.

With the support of coalition partners, Minister O’Gorman remains optimistic about the successful execution of the Residential Zoned Land Tax, underscoring the need for effective communication within the government.
