Kerala CM Seeks PM Modi’s Assistance for Wayanad Landslide Rehabilitation
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek assistance for the rehabilitation of people affected by the recent landslides in Wayanad. The estimated loss due to the landslides is around Rs 1,200 crore, with Rs 2,000 crore needed for relief and rehabilitation efforts.
PM Modi had previously promised a liberal approach in providing support for the rehabilitation of Wayanad. Vijayan plans to discuss the state government’s relief and rehabilitation plans, which include setting up a township for those who lost their homes and providing employment opportunities. An all-party meeting is scheduled for August 29 to further discuss the rehabilitation efforts.
Efforts have been made to shift all landslide-affected individuals from relief camps to government-provided housing or alternative accommodations. Schools that were being used as relief camps will resume normal operations, with students from a damaged school being accommodated in nearby facilities.
