Joe Carey, a Fine Gael TD, has announced his resignation as a public representative due to a life-altering medical situation that has forced him to step away based on medical advice. His departure marks the 16th Fine Gael TD elected in 2020 not seeking re-election.
Having entered politics in 1999, Carey’s 25-year career includes serving as a county councillor and a TD. He expressed gratitude to his constituents and party members for their support throughout his political journey.
Carey’s decision adds to the growing list of 27 TDs elected in 2020 who have either left politics or confirmed they will not seek re-election. Among the 16 Fine Gael TDs, prominent names like Leo Varadkar, Simon Coveney, and Michael Creed are also not seeking re-election.
