Thousands of protesters took to the streets in Israeli cities, demanding a quick hostage swap with Palestinian factions in Gaza. Demonstrations in Tel Aviv urged PM Netanyahu to finalize a deal for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza. Opposition leader Yair Lapid joined the protests, urging Netanyahu to personally go to Cairo for negotiations.
Protests were also reported in Haifa, Herzliya, and Caesarea. Meanwhile, a Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo to resume talks on a hostage swap and ceasefire in Gaza, stalled due to Netanyahu’s reluctance to cede control of certain border areas. The delegation aims to pressure Israel to reach an agreement.
In response, Hamas confirmed the visit and reiterated its commitment to the July 2 peace proposal. Both Israeli and US delegations were also in Cairo for ceasefire talks. The conflict has resulted in numerous Palestinian casualties and a devastated Gaza. Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice.
