Facing potential protests by Utility Stores Corporation (USC) employees at Parliament House, the Islamabad administration plans to block the “Red Zone” with 97 shipping containers and increased police presence. USC employees nationwide protested the proposed store closure, prompting the government to clarify that the stores will remain open.
As USC employees prepare to protest at Parliament House, the Islamabad Capital Territory administration prepares to block the Red Zone to ensure protesters cannot reach the building. Plans include placing 97 shipping containers at 13 points to block roads to the Red Zone.
Despite 92 containers already in police possession, preparations include placing containers at key locations such as ISI checkpoint, Marriott Hotel, and Nadra Chowk. USC staff have threatened a larger movement if the government does not reconsider its decision.
