Govt-med student talks failure sparks impending edu crisis

With the new academic year fast approaching, Moroccan universities are facing uncertainty as a long-standing dispute involving medical and pharmaceutical students threatens to result in a “white year” if left unresolved. Despite failed mediation efforts, the parliamentary majority is making a final attempt to resolve the issue by presenting new proposals to student parents.

The proposed solutions, discussed with Minister of Higher Education Abdellatif Miraoui, aim to address issues such as make-up exams and penalties for suspended students. While some student representatives are skeptical and believe only they should negotiate on their behalf, the majority hopes that parental support will sway students to accept the offers to avoid repeating the year.

However, not all stakeholders are on board, with some criticizing the involvement of parents in negotiations. As the situation remains fluid, tensions between student representatives and government officials persist, with differing opinions on how to end the ongoing crisis.
