Government Announces Autism Innovation Strategy
The Government has unveiled its new national autism strategy, known as the Autism Innovation Strategy, which aims to bring about significant changes to autism services and accessibility in daily life within the next 18 months. The strategy, launched by Taoiseach Simon Harris, Minister for Integration Roderic O Gorman, and Minister of State for Disability Anne Rabbitte, includes 83 specific measures focused on areas such as equality and access, inclusive communities, and service improvements.
Key elements of the plan include promoting greater acceptance and understanding of autism, empowering autistic individuals, enhancing staff competencies in autism services, and ensuring the consideration of autistic individuals’ requirements in related terminology.
Taoiseach Simon Harris emphasized the importance of a person-centered approach and committed to implementing the measures within the specified timeframe. While funding details are yet to be finalized, the strategy reflects the government’s commitment to action on autism as outlined in the Programme for Government.
