Far-right minister targets Shin Bet chief in campaign

Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar was targeted in a media campaign funded by National Security Minister Itamar Be-Gvir’s party, blaming him for the recent Hamas massacre and future calamities. Last week, Be-Gvir walked out of a cabinet meeting after Bar warned about West Bank settlers’ violence. Bar emphasized the need for a joint effort to eradicate this threat, highlighting its risks to regional security.

During a cabinet meeting amid a war with Hezbollah, some ministers criticized Be-Gvir’s attacks on Bar as inappropriate. Even Netanyahu intervened, emphasizing the need for unity in the face of the enemy. Meanwhile, 169 former defense officials lent their support to Bar against the smear campaign.

The attacks on Shin Bet and its employees were condemned as attempts to weaken the security establishment. Such actions could harm Israel’s security and stability. It highlighted the importance of standing together as a nation against evil forces, especially during challenging times like these.
