The US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered the deployment of two aircraft carrier strike groups to the Middle East, following a call with his Israeli counterpart. This decision comes after major cross-border clashes between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
General C.Q. Brown, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, arrived in Israel to hold meetings with top Israeli military officials. Hezbollah launched rockets and drones at Israel, prompting Israel to respond with a large-scale strike on Lebanon.
Despite the violence, casualties were kept to a minimum. Hezbollah claimed to have hit 11 military targets in retaliation for Israel’s assassination of Fuad Shukr.
